The Biggest Tree in the Smallest Space
By Beth Beutler

1     "I hope someone picks me!" thought the 12-foot Christmas tree. He'd been sitting in the parking lot for a very long time. Adults and children wandered through the lot, but all of them passed him by.

2     He used to live in North Carolina. He'd been at the Upper Mountain Tree Farm for over 10 years. He'd grown up there, working hard to become a strong, full tree. He knew that someday, if he worked hard, he would be the prize tree in someone's mansion. However, he began to wonder whether he had worked too hard. He was almost too tall for anyone.

3     Finally, a young couple with a four year old came by. He heard them debate about whether he would work, and he felt like shouting, "Of course, I'll work. I'm a strong, beautiful tree. I'm ready for your house!"
