A Special Thanksgiving
By Beth Beutler

1     Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I guess it is because it always felt like a warm, family time. It was a time to reflect on our blessings. It was a time of enjoying plenty of good food and relaxing on the couch while watching a game of football on television.

2     For several years our family relaxed even more by having someone else do the cooking! Since we were a small family (I'm an only child), we didn't always have a lot of relatives to get together with. We started to take a yearly trip to Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. There was a restaurant there called the "Seafarer."

3     The Seafarer put out a huge buffet of all kinds of foods. There was also a beautiful ice sculpture in the center of the table. We could go up as often as we wanted. There were several salads, meats, vegetables, and desserts. Somehow, being in a historic spot like Mystic with its old ships and museum displays made it seem a little more like an old-fashioned Thanksgiving.
