The Space Ghost, Part 3
By Mary Lynn Bushong

Cassandra and her Mom had just finished replacing the life support circuits. Cass was watching the strange mist while her mother left, and she soon ran after her.

When Cassandra arrived at the bridge, the others were staring at the view screen.

"What's that?" she asked, as she pointed to some wreckage floating near an asteroid. "It looks like a derelict ship."

"It is," said Dad. "From its design, it looks like it was wrecked several decades ago." He magnified the ship on the screen. "It's a freighter or exploration ship. You can see where it looks like the hold has been ripped open."

     "Explosive blast?" asked Zach.

"Maybe in part," said Dad, "but some of that hull metal is bent the wrong way. It almost looks like it was attacked from the outside..."

"At least whatever it was isn't likely to have stayed around, right?" asked Cassandra nervously. "Right?"

BANG. The whole ship shuddered, and the crew held onto whatever they could reach.
