Cancer
By Jennifer Kenny

1     Can you name someone you know who has suffered from cancer? Almost everyone can. After cardiovascular disease, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States.

2     In every human body, cells die. Then cells divide to take their place. Healthy cells do this at an appropriate rate. Sometimes, though, things go wrong, and some cells begin dividing uncontrollably. This is cancer.

3     When these faulty cells keep producing they clump together and form a tumor. A benign tumor is abnormal but doesn't invade healthy tissue. A malignant tumor is abnormal and invades and destroys healthy tissue.
