A Tick Bite
By Jennifer Kenny

Ted went on a hike through the woods. He was with his father, his brother, and two friends. He liked going on hikes with them

At the end of the hike, Ted felt very warm.

"Did you have fun?" his dad asked Ted.

"Yes," Ted said, "but I am hot. Why did you make me wear long pants?"

"I wanted you to be safe from the ticks," his dad said.

     "What are ticks?" Ted asked.

"A tick is a mite," his dad said. "There are many kinds. Here we think of the deer tick and the dog tick. You've seen the dog ticks on Cody's fur. A deer tick is very tiny."

     "Tick check!" Ted's dad yelled.

Everyone came over. "Why do you do this?" Ted asked.
