Ripples of Giving - The Eagle Mount Story
By Colleen Messina

1     Seven-year-old Lucy loves the water. Her blue eyes glow each time she puts on her life jacket and gets into the pool. Her mother is thrilled that her daughter can swim!

2     Lucy's life has been far from normal. She has muscular dystrophy. Her arms and legs are weak and thin, but she is strong in the water. Her mother, Cindy, explains that swimming is the best thing she has found for Lucy. Lucy proudly kicks her legs and bobs up and down. Since water is buoyant, Lucy feels good in it. She loves her swimming program at Eagle Mount.

3     Eagle Mount has programs for special people like Lucy. The founder, Greta Mathis, taught disabled children. She wanted to create a place where they could do more. Her husband, Bob, was in the Air Force. They moved to Bozeman, Montana, in 1982. Eagle Mount was created for disabled children. The Bible phrase, "mount up on the wings of eagles" inspired their name.
