The Importance of a First Aid Kit
By Jennifer Kenny

Every once in a while Carl's dad needed to clean out his car. Today Carl offered to help. Carl ran the vacuum inside the parked car on the driveway. Dad started to take out everything in the trunk.

When Carl finished with the vacuum, he went to see what his father had pulled from the trunk. What a pile he saw lying in the driveway!

"Oh, wow!" Carl said. "That's where the basketball went. I haven't seen that in weeks."

"Yeah! Look at what else I found," Dad said. "I can see I need to clean this car out a lot more often." In the pile, there was a dog toy, some CDs, a bunch of candy wrappers, empty soda bottles, and a box.

"Where should this box go?" Carl asked. "What's inside it, anyway?"

"That's going back in the trunk," Dad answered. "That's the first aid box."

"It looks like a fishing tackle box to me," Carl said.

"That's what it is meant to be," Dad said, "but I filled it with first aid supplies for our family. It is lightweight, has handles, and has lots of space. An art supply box would have worked well, too. I should label it better so anyone that looks will know what it really is. I think I'll do that this afternoon. I should also check what's inside."
