A Dream Car
By Larry and Mary Lynn Bushong

1     Craig sat on the floor next to a stack of newspapers. He had been reading the ads for months now. He was really interested in the trucks and cars. Just the month before, Craig had turned sixteen. Two weeks after, he had passed his driving test. Now all he could think of was getting a car of his own. He thought of all the time he had spent working over the past two years. He had saved every penny. Maybe now he would have enough.

2     Several of the ads caught his eye. He circled them with a pen and carried the paper to his father. They all sounded like they might be good. Dad always found something wrong with his dream cars. Most of the time it was the price. They had gone to look at a few. There was a Ford Taurus and an older Honda. Nothing that would excite a teenage boy.

3     Then one Saturday morning, Dad called Craig from his room. "Say, Craig, I heard about a car a fellow at work is selling. It will need some work, but I can help you with that. Do you want to go take a look?"

4     "What is it, an old Rambler or something?" Craig asked.
