¹     "I broke my bike and I need help," said Gabe. "Mom, can I call the fire department to come help me fix my bike?"
 
²     "No, Gabe, the fire department doesn't do that kind of stuff for us," Mom replied.
 
³     "Then can I call the police department to help me?" asked Gabe.
 
⁴     "No, Gabe, police officers don't do that kind of stuff for us, either," Mom said.
 
⁵     "Why not?" Gabe questioned.
 
⁶     "Because that isn't their job," explained Mom.
 
⁷     "Okay, may I ask the mayor to help me?"
 
⁸     "Gabe, he doesn't fix bikes; he's far too busy for that," said Mom.
 
⁹     "Well, who will help me?" whined Gabe. "My teacher told me that these people are helpers in the community and they're supposed to help us."
