Pick a Perfect Pet
By Marilyn Gatley

1     More than half of all American families own at least one pet. Dogs, cats, birds, and fish are America's favorite pets. Before you get a pet, you should think about how much space the pet needs, the cost of owning a pet, the time it takes to care for a pet, and how long the pet lives.

2     Do you have room for a pet? If you live in a small house or apartment, you probably don't have room for a large pet. Dogs and cats may not be allowed in rented apartments.

3     Consider getting a smaller pet such as a gerbil, hamster, or fish. Most pets need to stay inside to protect them from getting hurt or running away.
