New Books to Read
By Judith K. Westbrook

Andy and Maria wanted a new book to read. They went to the library. The library was big. It had rows and rows of books. It was very hard to pick just one book. They walked and walked looking at the books. There were big green books, little red books, blue books, yellow books, and a purple book with bats on it.

Mrs. Jay, the lady who worked at the library, wanted to help Andy and Maria. She said, "What do you like, Andy?"

Andy said, "I like fast cars!"

Mrs. Jay walked down three rows of books and then stopped. Andy saw 27 books about cars and said, "How can I pick just one?"

Mrs. Jay said, "That is hard, but you can have three books to take home for two weeks."

"I can!" said Andy with a big smile on his face.

"Mrs. Jay, I like books about girls," said Maria. "Do you have some of those?"

"Oh, yes!" smiled Mrs. Jay. Then she took Maria on a walk down two more rows of books.

"Wow!" said Maria. "You have a lot of girl books. Look! This one has a girl and a boy on it."
