Timmy the Tractor
By Joan Devine

1     Timmy the tractor couldn't wait for the rest of the snow to melt. It had been a long winter, and he had sat still for a long time. Sure, he had helped feed the cattle bales of hay, but it wasn't the same as helping in the field.

2     He sat remembering how he had pulled the plow last spring. As he pulled the plow it broke up the lumps of soil. The farmer guided Timmy through the field. Plowing the field was an important job. He helped get the field ready to plant. Timmy was glad he could help.

3     After plowing it came time to plant. How Timmy loved pulling the planter! Sometimes the farmer would put corn in the planter. Then maybe the next day it was soybeans in the planter. The planter would drop the seed into the soil. The days were long, but Timmy didn't mind. He loved planting time.
