Cookie the Diabetic Cat
By Jennifer Kenny

1     This is the true story of Cookie. Cookie was a newborn female kitten. She was found wandering around an apartment building until a concerned neighbor took her in. The neighbor already had lots and lots of other animals so a nice friend adopted her. Cookie was black all over except for some white patches on her head and paws. Her colors reminded the new owner of an Oreo cookie, thus her name made sense.

2     Cookie lived a pretty good, although quiet, life. She definitely ruled the roost. She adapted to life with another cat. In fact, they became "sisters" as the kids in the house would eventually call them. She adapted to her owner's marriage. She even adapted to the birth of two children.

3     Cookie slept a lot. She enjoyed staring out the window at the birds. She had lots of love to give to her owner, to his wife, and even to two noisy toddlers...but the playing and loving were definitely on her terms - like a typical cat. When Cookie was around seven years old, she lost weight, began drinking a lot of water, and went to the bathroom very often. Concerned, her owners took her to the vet. After listening to the symptoms, the vet ran some tests and diagnosed Cookie with diabetes.
