Mikey's Mixed Up, Messed Up Day
By Joyce Furstenau

Eight-year-old Mikey knew it was going to be a mixed up, messed up day. It started when he got out of bed. Just as he put his foot down to get up, he stepped on one of his Legos.

"Ouch! Ouch!" he cried out loud. He rubbed his foot.

Next, Mikey went to the sink to brush his teeth. He dropped his toothbrush on the floor. The toothpaste squirted all over the sink. He used a towel to clean it up.

"What a mixed up, messed up day!" thought Mikey.

He put his toothbrush away and combed his hair. The handle of his comb broke. He washed his face and put on a new shirt. His favorite pants were in the wash. Now what should he do? He looked through his drawers for another pair. The first one had a hole in the knee. The others were too small. Finally, Mikey found a pair of pants that were pretty worn out, but they were clean. He put them on.

Mikey was afraid he would be late for the bus. He looked everywhere for his shoes.

He looked under his bed. He looked in the closet. He looked in the hall. Mikey could not find his shoes anywhere. He decided he would wear his rubber rain boots. He slipped them on.

"This sure has been a mixed up, messed up day," said Mikey out loud to himself.

Next, he went downstairs to eat breakfast.
