Jake and Jackie Learn to Manage their Time, Part 1
By Beth Beutler

"Jake, come ON!" Jackie yelled. "We are going to be late."

Jackie stood on the porch of Jake's house on the first day of school. It seemed like he was forever running late, and she was getting angry.

After what seemed like an hour, but really wasn't, Jake finally came out of the house.

"What were you doing!?" Jackie demanded.

"Settle down, Jackie," Jake replied. "I just had to get all my school supplies together."

"Why didn't you do that last night?"

     "Because I was playing Ninplaybox."

"You and that stupid video game system. Come on. We're going to have to walk faster."

"Why are you in such a rush?"

"Because I want time to see my friends before the school day starts."

Jake and Jackie approached the school yard. "See you after class," Jackie yelled as she took off toward a group of girls. Jake sauntered over to two of his friends who were hanging out by the basketball hoop.

Before long, the bell rang, and all the kids filed into school. For Jake it was a long, boring day. For Jackie, she was excited to see everyone's new clothes and school supplies.

At 3:30, they met at the end of the fence. Jackie began bubbling over with all her social plans. "I'm going to Susie's tonight, Rebecca's tomorrow night, and staying overnight at Wendy's on Friday!"
