Using Guide Words
By Patti Hutchison

1     Telephone books, dictionaries, and encyclopedias can give you lots of information. But they can be scary, too. All those words! How do you find what you need? It's simple: let the guide words help you.

2     Guide words are listed at the top of each page. The words on the page are in ABC order. The first guide word is the first word on the page. The second guide word is the last word on the page.

3     All the words on the page come between the two guide words. For example, say you need the telephone number for Edward Green. Turn to the G's in the phone book. Begin looking at the guide words.
