Mopping the Floor
By Cathy Pearl

1     Marie's dog had played in the mud. When Marie let Sassy into the house, the dog made a mess on the floor.

2     Marie knew that she had to clean the dog and mop the floor. It was her job to clean it if her dog made a mess. She didn't like to mop, but she didn't want to get in trouble with her mom.

3     The first thing Marie did was wash the dog's feet. She didn't want to clean the floor and then have the dog make a mess again. She used a wet paper towel to wipe off the dog's feet. Then she put Sassy in her bedroom so she wouldn't get in the way. Sometimes she liked to chase the mop, and that made the job take twice as long.
