1     "Uggg. Community service hours. Why do we have to do this?" Jake complained to Jackie as they headed home from school. "I already have a lot to do!"
 
2     Jake and Jackie's school had started a new program called "Commitment to Community." Each student was to put ten hours of volunteer work into their community during each semester.
 
3     Jackie was more enthusiastic than Jake. "I think it could be fun. There are lots of neat ideas on the list they gave us."
 
4     Jake rolled his eyes. "Like what?"
 
5     Jackie stopped and swung her backpack onto the sidewalk. She pulled out a folded list from the top pocket.
