Alexander Graham Bell
By Sharon Fabian

1     Alexander Graham Bell was one of the very early pioneers in the field of telecommunications.

2     Telecommunications means communicating over a long distance. It may involve sending messages over wires, or it may involve satellites or other forms of wireless communication. It may even involve waving signal flags like the lifeguards do at the beach. Any method of sending a message an extra-long distance can be called telecommunication.

3     When Alexander Graham Bell was growing up in the 1800's, telecommunication was not an everyday thing as it is today. Families did not have TV's and phones in their homes. Schools did not have public address systems for morning announcements. Business was not conducted over the Internet.
