Locomotive Engineer

1     Did you ever have a model train? When you set it up, did you dream about driving the train? Did you ever watch a train go through a railroad crossing? Did you wave at the engineer? Lots of children dream about being an engineer.
 
2     Locomotive engineers are very skilled. They have years of experience. They operate large trains that carry cargo and passengers. They travel between stations in big cities and tiny towns.
 
3     Engineers check their locomotives before and after each trip. They get the starting instructions from conductors. They move controls like throttles and airbrakes to drive the locomotives. They keep track of speed, battery charge, and air pressure.
