Jake and Jackie Learn Some Musical Terms, Part 3
By Beth Beutler

It was the third week of learning musical terms. Jake was actually getting a little tired of it, but Jackie loved it. She enjoyed the after-school music lessons more than Jake did. He would rather be outside playing soccer. It wasn't as if he "hated" music class, and he did like Mrs. Mossett, the leader of the program.

Mrs. Mossett went to the front of the room.

"Today, we finish our musical terms through the alphabet trek," she said, trying to interest the children by referring to the project as a journey. "Let's see what letters we have left."

Cathy called out, "We're starting with 'T' today."

     "Thanks, Cathy," Mrs. Mossett replied.

"'T' is for 'trio.' This is a piece of music sung or played by three people. Now, we are getting into some harder letters. What might 'U' refer to?"

None of the kids had an idea, so Mrs. Mossett continued.

"We'll use 'unison' for 'U.' Can anyone guess what that might mean?"

Jackie raised her hand. "Is that when a group sings or plays all together?"
