A Big Party for the Party
By Phyllis Naegeli

Mr. Edwin sat on the couch and read the daily newspaper. Meghan lay on the floor in front of the couch reading a book.

"Hmm, that's interesting," Mr. Edwin commented.

Meghan looked up from her book. "What's interesting?"

"There's a pull-out section in the newspaper about the convention," said Mr. Edwin, looking over a colorful page of the newspaper.

     "What convention?" asked Meghan, puzzled.

"The Democratic National Convention," said Mr. Edwin.

     "What's that?"

"It's a four-day event where delegates and members of the Democratic Party meet to nominate their candidate for president."

Meghan sat up and faced her dad. "Is it a part of the election this year?"

"Yes it is," said Mr. Edwin. "It's quite an event -- a big party for the party!"

Meghan giggled. "Funny, Dad. What do they do at the convention?"

"Come sit up here and look over the paper with me," said Mr. Edwin.
