"Someday, I'm going to be president," Meghan announced at breakfast.
"You are?" her mother, Mrs. Edwin, exclaimed.
"Yes, I am," said a determined Meghan. "We've been studying the presidential election, and I have decided that I want to be president."
Mrs. Edwin looked at her husband. "Well, dear, what do you think?"
"I think it's a great idea," said Mr. Edwin.
"Really?" said Meghan. "Will you help me?"
"I'd love to, but first - why do you want to be president?" Mr. Edwin asked.
"Being president is a very important job. I want to have an important job," said Meghan proudly.
"Any other reasons?" asked Mr. Edwin.
"Well, we've learned a lot about what the president does. It sounds like a fun job, too," said Meghan.
"Tell me about what you have learned," said Mr. Edwin.
Meghan thought for a minute. "The president says O.K. to laws. I want to make sure we have good laws. The president gets to meet leaders from other countries. If I was president, I could work hard to make friends with them. This would help the world be more peaceful."
"You would also have to be in charge of the military," said Mr. Edwin. "Do you think you could send our troops somewhere to fight for freedom?"
Meghan pouted. "I wouldn't want to," she said sadly. "But, if I had to I would."
