Quincy Quail Quits
By Brenda B. Covert

Quincy was a quiet bird.
He had brown feathers with white specks.
He was crowned with a fine plume.
He lived with a covey of quail.
He was in the squad of lookouts.

Quincy Quail did not like noise.
He could make quite a fuss.
Quacks made him quiver.
Honks made him quake.
He would squeeze his eyes shut.
He did not like to be on the lookout squad.
His mother, Quilla Quail, had forced him into it.

Quincy's friends wanted to play a trick.
They hid in the tall grass. They waited.
It was very quiet. Along came Quincy.
The quails began to quack like ducks.
They honked like geese.
