A Chick Named Chico
By Brenda B. Covert

A chick named Chico had a friend. His friend was a rat called Chase.

One day Chico and Chase went into a house. The house was small. No one was home.

"We can look for food!" Chase said. "I need a bite to eat!"

Chico did not like that plan. Chicks do not eat people food. They eat chicken feed. "We will not find chicken feed in here," Chico said.

Chase did not care. "I will eat anything."

Chico wanted to go home. He did not want to leave his friend. What could he do?

The little chick hopped on a chair. He rubbed his little yellow chin. What would he do?

"I smell cheese!" the rat cried. "I must find it!"

Chico stopped rubbing his chin. He hopped off the chair. "Chase, come back!" he cried after the rat. "What if it is a trap?"
