Pirate Cave Ghost, Part 1
By Mary Lynn Bushong

Marco Palazzo and Trevor Morgan sat silently in the ice cream shop and listened to the conversations that burbled around them. The Palace of Gastronomical Delights was the shop's actual name, but the locals just called it the ice cream shop.

Marco liked their hamburgers best, but Trevor liked the ice cream. Flavor wasn't an issue. He liked them all. The best part about being there, though, was that it was a center for all the local gossip.

All the juiciest tidbits of information could be heard there first, long before they might ever make it to one of the news outlets. So far, the summer had been a dry one for information of any kind. That is, unless you wanted to know that old Mrs. Johnson won the paint store drawing for enough paint to coat her house twice over, or that Jessica Sander's cat had three kittens, and all of them had six toes on each foot. They weren't exactly the kind of things that really caught the average guy's interest.

Mr. Martinez stopped on the other side of the counter from the boys.

"Can I get you something else to eat or drink?" he asked as he wiped away water rings from the base of their cups.

Marco and Trevor looked at each other and shook their heads.

"We'll just finish our drinks and head out," said Trevor.

"Have you heard any interesting news, Mr. Martinez?" asked Marco.
