Jo lived on a farm. She had a pet duck named Sally. Sally was not a white duck. She was spotted. She was black and white with a red face.
Some people said Sally was ugly. Jo knew better. Sally was her friend. Jo and Sally had fun.
One day, Jo went to see Sally. Sally was not under the tree. She was not with the other ducks. Where could she be?
Jo went to the pond. Sally was not there. Where could she be? Jo ran to the house.
"Mom," she said, "Sally is gone."
Mom looked out the window. "I see Sally. She is under the tree with the other ducks."
Jo looked too. There was Sally. Where had Sally been?
The next day, Sally was gone again. Jo looked all over. She could not find Sally. She went to see Mom.
