1     At some point in your life, you will probably have to inform or instruct someone. Even if you do not pick a career in public speaking, you will still have to share information. Perhaps you will have to tell coworkers about a new policy. Or, you may have to make a public statement as a representative of your company. You may have to inform a group of friends about an upcoming event. You will have many opportunities in your life to make an informative speech.
 
2     An Informative Speech is similar to a Demonstrative Speech. In both, you are giving someone information. However, with a demonstrative speech, you are probably using some more "hands-on" techniques than you might with an informative speech. You will be showing "how" to do something. With an informative speech, you will concentrate more on the "what" and the "why" of a topic or announcement without doing a hands-on demonstration.
 
3     Here are some tips for preparing and presenting an informative speech.
 
4     1. Know your subject! As with most speeches, it will be difficult to speak effectively if you do not understand the subject yourself. It is important to learn about the topic by reading, researching, talking to those who know more about it, and observation. The more you know about the background and facts about the topic, the more easily you can select what is most important to share.
