By Jane Runyon

"I want to play in the park," moaned Tess.

"Mom says we can't," said Tim. "She says it's too dark."

"Why the long face, Tess?" asked Wendy.

"Mom has a rule about not going to the park when it's dark," said Tess. "I don't like Mom's rules."

"She made that rule to keep you safe," said Wendy.

"You might get hurt in the dark," added Tim.

     "I don't care," moaned Tess. "I don't like rules."

"Why don't you ask your mom if you can come to my house?" offered Wendy. "I need some help on a school project."

     "Oh, okay," Tess said.
