Wendy's World- The High Price of Gasoline
By Jane Runyon

     "Bummer!" moaned Tim.

     "What's the matter?" asked Wendy.

"He's mad because our dad says we can't go to Uncle Mike's house for the weekend," said Tess.

     "Did something happen?" asked Wendy.

     "Yes," answered Tim, "gasoline happened."

"Huh?" said Wendy. "I don't understand. What does gasoline have to do with you going to your Uncle Mike's house?"

"What do you need to put in the car to make it go?" asked Tim.

     "Gasoline," responded Wendy.

"And have you seen the price of gasoline lately?" asked Tess.

     "I guess I haven't noticed," answered Wendy.

"It has gone sky high," moaned Tim. "Dad says it would cost too much in gas for us to make such a short trip."

"Why does it cost so much?" wondered Wendy out loud. "Hey, there's my dad. Maybe he can help us understand."

"I guess it's worth a try," said Tess. "I don't think anything is going to make Tim happy right now."
