1     Mi stavo stancando dell'inverno. Avevamo appena superato un'altra tempesta di neve. All'inizio, a mia sorella Rachel, ed a me piaceva stare a casa da scuola. Ora, ci stavamo annoiando. Stavamo sedute sui nostri letti con le gambe a ciondoloni.
 
2     "Cosa vuoi fare?" chiesi a Rachel.
 
3     Rachel sospirò. "Non lo so".
 
4     "Ragazze, venite giù, per favore," la mamma le chiamò dal fondo delle scale.
 
5     "Sì, mamma?"
 
6     "Sapevate che marzo è il Mese nazionale delle tagliatelle? Credo sia tempo di organizzare una festa!"
 
7     I nostri visi si illuminarono. Una festa per celebrare il nostro cibo preferito... la pasta! La mia famiglia adora organizzare feste. Troveremmo un motivo qualsiasi per organizzarne una. Il Mese nazionale delle tagliatelle era una buona ragione come tante. Stavo già cominciando a sentirmi meglio.
 
8     Lei chiamò me e Rachel a tavola. "Organizziamo la festa!" disse.
 
9     "Oh che bello!" dicemmo quasi all'unisono. Amavamo aiutare la mamma ad organizzare le feste.
 
10     "Siccome marzo è il Mese nazionale delle tagliatelle," esordì la mamma, "potremmo facilmente organizzare una festa con della pasta! Quale tipo di pasta potremmo offrire?"
 
11     "DOBBIAMO offrire maccheroni e formaggio," dissi io.
 
12     "Certamente, Shelby," replicò la mamma. "Sono i tuoi preferiti".
 
13     Potremmo avere anche gli spaghetti?" chiese Rachel.
