Lester the Lemming
By Mary Lynn Bushong

1     Lester pushed his way through the snow that covered the ground. It was possible for him to walk on top of it but very dangerous. On top of the snow, he was easily seen.

2     Most lemmings did not live long lives. Lester was trying to make certain he was not one of those.

3     Just the other day he had been near one of his cousins when the snow came crashing down. The next thing he knew, there were two white paws and a white snout poking about. It grabbed his cousin, and in two chomps he was gone.

4     Lester had been so frightened that he could not move. It was just as well the fox had gone on and hadn't found him.
