Germs Make Us Sick
By Cindy Grigg

1     Germs are tiny living things. They are so small you can't see them. In fact, 1,000 germs could fit on the end of a pencil!

2     Germs are everywhere. They are in the air you breathe. They are in the food you eat. They are in the water you drink. They are on everything you touch.

3     So why aren't we always sick? Many germs are not harmful. They do not make us sick. Also, our bodies keep germs out most of the time.

4     Your skin helps keep germs out. As long as there are no cuts or scratches, germs can't get inside. That's why we should wash a cut with soap and water and use medicine to kill germs on it.

5     Your nose helps keep germs out. Your nose is lined with hairs. These tiny hairs catch many of the germs you breathe in. They push the germs back out.
