A Taste Nightmare
By Kathleen W. Redman

1     Michael woke up early on Saturday. He got dressed and went to the kitchen. His mother was there. She was making blueberry pancakes. Yummy! Michael loved blueberry pancakes!

2     Michael sat down at the table. His mother put a big stack of pancakes on his plate. There was butter on the top. She poured syrup on the pancakes. It ran down the sides.

3     Michael couldn't wait to put the first bite in his mouth! He cut a wedge out of the stack. He put it in his mouth and chewed. It was . . . disgusting! He spit it out on his plate. What was wrong? How could his favorite pancakes taste so bad?

4     The syrup tasted like lemons. It was so sour! The butter tasted like tomato juice. It was awful. The blueberry pancakes tasted like rotten milk. Oh, yuck! Michael felt sick. He asked his mother for a glass of milk. He had to get rid of the taste.

5     Michael's mother brought him a cold, fresh glass of milk. Michael quickly took a drink. Oh, no! The fresh, cold milk tasted like garlic and onions!
