Father's Day
By Mary Lynn Bushong

1     What do you do for Father's Day each year? Do you get your dad a gift? Do you have a special meal to celebrate the day?

2     It was not very long ago that there was no national holiday for Father's Day. Many people talked about it, but it was not made official until 1972.

3     How did Father's Day come about? Two women on different sides of the continent came up with the idea in the early 1900s. Both of them thought it would be good to honor fathers.

4     The first woman was Grace Golden Clayton. She lived in West Virginia just a few miles from where the first Mother's Day was celebrated.
