Father's Day Fishing, Part 2
By Mary Lynn Bushong

"It looks like you have a good one there," said Ben. "Now, don't try and reel it in all at once; you don't want him to snap your line. Just let me reel in my line so I can help you land him."

The fishing line moved back and forth across the water on the one side of the boat in the wake of the swimming fish. Twice the fish leapt from the water, sending a rainbow of droplets into the air.

"Look, Ben," he exclaimed, "it's my first fish!"

"Good job, Alex! Now let's get him closer so I can net him," said Ben.

The fish came near the surface a few feet from the side of the boat. Ben picked up the net and carefully leaned over the side. When the tired fish was close enough, he scooped it up with the net.

Grasping a pair of pliers, Ben unhooked the lure and placed the fish in a cooler full of water.

"That one looks like a real keeper. Shall we try and get a few more?" asked Ben.

Alex nodded. "That was fun. Won't Mom be surprised? I'm glad you asked me to go fishing with you."

"You're welcome," said Ben. "I am very pleased that you wanted to come." Ben opened his mouth and then shut it again.
