Olympic Cycling

1     Caption: picture of the European BMX Championships
 
2     Among the many fascinating sports at this summer's Olympics, one that you won't want to miss is cycling. It offers a great mix of individual and team competitions with plenty of speed and endurance challenges. Altogether there will be eighteen events in four main categories - track cycling, road cycling, mountain bike, and BMX.
 
3     It all begins on August 9, and you can watch from the comfort of your living room sofa as the races take place in Laoshan Velodrome in Beijing, China.
 
4     The cyclists themselves have been preparing for years. Long before they dreamed of the Beijing Olympics, they bought racing bikes and wild-looking helmets and began to train. They practiced sprints to build up their power and increase their speed. They practiced long rides to build up their endurance and practice their pacing. They ate meals full of things like peanut butter and rice - protein and carbs - for fuel.
