¹     "Is it up or is it down?" Mark asked.
 
²     "It is up," Mr. Brown answered.
 
³     The children in Mr. Brown's class were playing a game called Opposites. They were trying to guess what Mr. Brown was thinking about. They could only ask questions that had opposite words in them.
 
⁴     "Is it careful or is it careless?" Marcy asked.
 
⁵     "It is careful," Mr. Brown said.
 
⁶     "Is it ugly or is it pretty?" Sandra asked.
 
⁷     "It is pretty, but I have seen ugly ones," Mr. Brown explained.
 
⁸     The children thought quietly for a minute. It was hard to guess this one.
