Jake and Jackie Go Shopping
By Beth Beutler

"I earned quite a bit of money this summer," Jake bragged to Jackie. "Helping Mr. Smith with all those lawn and garden jobs really brought in some income for me."

"I earned some, too," Jackie replied. "I babysat for my cousin."

"What are you going to do with your money?" Jake asked.

"I'm not sure. Our mothers are talking about going shopping at the outlet stores this Saturday. Do you want to go along?"

Jake rubbed his chin. He wasn't sure how he felt about going shopping with ladies for a whole day. "I don't know. I don't feel like shopping for clothes."

"I didn't say we were only shopping for clothes," Jackie retorted.

"Aren't most of the outlet stores clothing stores?" Jake asked with a knowing look.

Jackie looked down sheepishly. "Well, okay, I guess you are right."

Jake still hesitated until Jackie offered, "How about we stop at that sporting goods outlet, too? Then, after lunch, maybe your dad can come pick you up while we ladies continue shopping."

"That sounds more like it," Jake responded. "Some of my sports equipment needs replacing."
