The Food Guide Pyramid
By KATHLEEN W. REDMAN

1     Do you know what the Food Guide Pyramid is? It's a way to help us decide how much of the different kinds of food to eat to be healthy. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) changed the pyramid in 2005 because they wanted a better way of telling us how to be healthy. The agency later released a special version for kids.

2     There is a girl climbing the staircase up the side of the pyramid. That's a way of showing us how important it is to be active every day. In other words, play a lot! The steps also tell us we can make changes little by little to be healthier one step at a time.

3     There are some other things we can learn from the Food Guide Pyramid, too.
