John Dewey

1     John Dewey wanted students to learn things that meant something to them. He changed how education was approached in the 20th century. No, he did not start the Dewey Decimal System. He was a teacher, social reformer, and philosopher.
 
2     On October 20, 1859, John Dewey was born. His father was a local merchant in Vermont. Growing up, he delivered newspapers and even worked at a lumberyard. John was a fair student.
 
3     At the age of 15, John went to the University of Vermont. He did very well in science. He was introduced to philosophy. John received excellent grades. Then he began teaching. He also read many pieces of philosophy and even wrote his own.
