Why Do We Eat Turkey on Thanksgiving?

1     Did they eat turkey on the first Thanksgiving? No one is sure if the Pilgrims and Native Americans ate turkey on the first Thanksgiving. They might have. Wild turkeys would have lived in the woods near their homes. It would have been easy to hunt them.
 
2     How did the custom of eating turkey on Thanksgiving begin? At the time of the Pilgrims, it was a custom in England to eat goose for holidays. The Pilgrims would have brought this custom to the New World. Since the Pilgrims couldn't hunt geese easily, they may have had turkey instead.
