The History of Gingerbread
By Meg Leonard

1     Ginger is a spice. It has a long history. People have baked with it for over a thousand years! Explorers brought the spice to Germany. Germans made tasty treats with this spice. Nuremberg, Germany, is the gingerbread capital of the world!

2     Gingerbread can be made many different ways. It can be a soft cake. It can be a crisp flat cookie. It is light, dark, sweet, or spicy. It is often served in a shape like a house, a person, or a star.
