Police Officers Protect Us

1     Do you have a lot of rules at your house? Do you like them? Sometimes it is not very fun to follow the rules. Did you know, though, that rules actually help you? Rules help to keep us safe. If you are riding in the car with your mom and a stoplight turns red, what happens? Your mom must push on the brakes and stop at that light. This is a rule. But what if your mom didn't stop at the red light? If your mom kept on driving, she could cause an accident. Cars could crash together and many people could get hurt. It would be very dangerous. Policemen and policewomen have a very special job. They help to make sure that people follow these rules, or laws. This helps to keep people in a community safe. Police officers help to protect citizens by stopping people who break the law. This can mean giving them a ticket. .....
