1 The Lincoln Memorial stands in Washington, D.C. It is on the National Mall. The memorial honors Abraham Lincoln. He was our sixteenth president. He was president during the Civil War. He also wrote the document that said slaves in the United States were free. He was killed by John Wilkes Booth. He died in 1865. Many people thought Lincoln was a great president.
