1 Howler monkeys are a special kind of monkey that live in the canopy or the top layer of trees in the rainforest. Howler monkeys are hard to see in the thick green leaves of the trees. Howler monkeys can have black, brown, or reddish colored fur. Howler monkeys aren't hard to hear. The howls of the monkeys can be heard as far as three miles away.
