What Is a Hearing Aid?
By Colleen Messina

1     Millions of people suffer from hearing loss. This can result from disease. It can result from aging. It can also result from an injury. A small device can help. This device is a hearing aid.

2     A hearing aid makes sounds louder. A basic hearing aid has three parts. It has a microphone. This receives the sound. It converts sound waves into electrical signals. It sends the signals to the amplifier. The amplifier increases the power of the signals. It sends them to the ear. The sounds go to the ear through a speaker.
