1     James Buchanan was the fifteenth president. He was born in Pennsylvania. He was born in 1791. He was a good debater. He knew the law well. He held many elected offices. Buchanan served in the House of Representatives. He served five terms. He spent ten years in the Senate. He served as Minister to Russia. He also served as Minister to Great Britain. He was Secretary of State. Then he was nominated for president. Buchanan won the election. He took office in 1857. Buchanan hoped to keep peace in the country. Slavery was the main issue. He wanted to keep both the North and South .....
