Asteroids

1     In between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter are many thousands of rocks. These rocks orbit the sun, just like the planets do. They are called asteroids. These asteroids form a ring as they orbit the sun. This ring is called the asteroid belt.
 
2     Asteroids may be large or small. They may be round, like the planets. They may not be round at all. The largest asteroid is about six hundred miles across. It was first seen in 1801. It was given the name Ceres. Since then, many more asteroids have been found. Sixteen of them are large, like Ceres. .....
