Transitions - The Way You Move...

1     Does this sound like something your teacher would say? "Class, when you hear the bell ring, I would like you to stand up. Put your hands on your hips. Then quietly walk to your next reading center." Your teacher has created a way for you to go, or transition, from one reading center to the next. Anytime you go from one thing to another, you must refocus your mind. Your teacher has asked you to move in a very specific way to help your mind quickly get back on track and think about the reading skills you are learning.
 
2     Imagine what your classroom would look like if your teacher just yelled "go." Kids would run and bump into each other. They would talk with outside voices. Most importantly, they would lose track of what they were working on in the first place which was reading skills! Yelling "go" would make .....
